Farmer Andrew Walker has laid claim to having a hole named in his honour at his golf club after acing it three times in the last 12 months.
The talented amateur, 50, recorded his latest hole-in-one on the monster 248-yard, par-four sixth at Wath GC in Rotherham – his amazing seventh ace in the last 12 months.
Walker, who plays off three, said: “It’s a risk and reward hole so it’s always worth having a punt at it – it must suit my eye.”
His latest achievement follows an incredible spate of aces which began last year when he registered three in just 15 days, after having never before recorded a hole-in-one.
Walker scored his first ace on the par-four sixth, with a 22-degree rescue club, and followed up with his second a week later, on the 137-yard, par-three third, using a pitching wedge. He went on to complete his hat-trick when he returned to the monster sixth, again using his trusty 22-degree rescue club.
The self-employed farmer added: “I’ve been playing golf seriously for about ten years. I played cricket for more than 30 years on the first team of my village, but was told I was too old. Since I had no interest in playing on the second team, someone suggested I take up golf, so I did.
“There are no secrets to getting a hole-in-one – just go for it. I seem to be doing well on the par-four sixth at Wath, but you can’t see the hole because of the trees so it’s risk and reward – you can play it safe or hit it blind.
“It’s always pure luck as I just hit and hope, although it’s getting a bit expensive now.
“I’ve got a competition next week that rewards a hole-in-one with a car, so it’d be good to get one there!”
The exclusive BOSS Watches H1Club has rewarded more than 5,500 golfers with a limited-edition timepiece for scoring a hole-in-one during a club competition – but Walker is one of the few to have achieved the feat on a par-four.
Long hitter Walker was once again rewarded with a specially-commissioned, commemorative BOSS timepiece, but it was the fact that Walker’s albatross – or double-eagle as it’s referred to on the US tours – was scored on such a long hole that raises the achievement above those of the vast majority of BOSS Watches H1Club members.
