Matthew Fitzpatrick won the British Masters at Woburn by two shots to collect a maiden European Tour title.
The 21-year-old Sheffield golfer shared the lead with Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat going into Sunday’s final round.
And, having enjoyed four top-three finishes already this season, it looked like Fitzpatrick would again miss out on a title when Soren Kjeldsen and Fabrizio Zanotti picked up three shots to lead by two at halfway.
However an impressive run of four birdies in seven holes on the back nine sealed Fitzpatrick a final-round 68 to finish on 15 under for the tournament.
Afterwards, Fitzpatrick said: “This isn’t going to sink in for a long time, I know that. It’s been a long day and I didn’t really know what to do to win.
“But I ground it out and managed to win. It’s been a great day.
“The fans have just been incredible and to me they’ve been unbelievably supportive. I can’t tell everyone how appreciative I am of that.”
Dane Kjeldsen and Paraguayan Zanotti, who both signed for 69, had to settle for tied second alongside Irishman Shane Lowry, who carded a final round 67.
