van Zyl stays ahead in Turkey

Jaco van Zyl remains at the top of the Turkish Airlines Open leaderboard after a solid three-under-par 69 on Friday.

The South African, who led after day one by three shots, made five birdies and two bogeys to move to -14 for the tournament and remain in contention for a maiden European Tour win.

van Zyl is a 13-time winner on the Sunshine Tour – tied-10th on the all-time list – but the 36-year-old has struggled to replicate the same performances when stepping up in class.

A fantastic opportunity has now presented itself to the world number 132 but there are several players looking to hunt the leader down over the weekend.

Two of those being the English duo of Richard Bland and Chris Wood, who are joint-second on -12 after shooting rounds of 65 and 66 respectively.

Fabrizio Zanotti signed for a six-under 66 and the Paraguayan is just three strokes off the pace on -11, alongside Frenchman Victor Dubuisson who shot a round of 64.

Following closely behind is world number three Rory McIlroy and the Northern Irishman, who is leading the Race to Dubai standings, is just four strokes off the lead.

Joining the four-time major winner on -10 is Alexander Levy while Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood are on -9 and still in contention for the title.
