Kaymer eyes strong finish

Martin Kaymer is hoping he can put in some good performances in order to finish a disappointing season on a high note.

The German has not won on either the European or PGA Tour since lifting the US Open title in 2014, his second major triumph after clinching the 2010 US PGA Championship.

He only managed to record one top-10 finish on the American circuit in the last campaign, a tie for sixth in the WGC-HSBC Champions event, but a second place result across the pond in the Italian Open did offer some positives.

Kaymer is currently 20th in the Race to Dubai standings and the 30-year-old needs a good finish to the season if he is going to achieve a top-10 finish.

Only two tournaments remain, with the BMW Masters getting underway in Shanghai on Thursday, and the world number 26, who admits the extra money is a nice incentive, says improving his position is the priority.

“Well, the bonus is nice, but it’s just a financial thing,” he said. “You know, in the end of the day, my goal is to really finish as high as possible. Somewhere in the top 10 (in the Race to Dubai), that would be good.”

Englishman Justin Rose heads the field for the event in China while Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and South African Branden Grace are also gunning for the title this week.

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy will not be in the field and this provides an opportunity for Danny Willett to take top spot in the Race to Dubai points list.
