Dustin Johnson has decided to withdraw from this week’s Shell Houston Open to rest up ahead of a tilt at the Masters.
The world number one continued his incredible run of success with victory in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on Sunday.
The 32-year-old’s Texas triumph was his fifth win since claiming his first major at the US Open last summer.
Johnson has now completed a clean sweep of the World Golf Championship events and is a red-hot favourite to secure a first Green Jacket at Augusta early next month.
He was scheduled to play in Houston from Thursday to Sunday but wants to take some time out away from the pressure of tournament golf before the year’s first major.
“After a great deal of thought and consultation with my team, I have decided to withdraw from this week’s Shell Houston Open,” he said in a statement.
“Having played seven rounds of competitive golf in the last five days, I feel it is best to give my mind and body a much-needed rest heading into Masters week.”
