Branden Grace sets major goal

South Africa’s Branden Grace remains confident he has the game to continue his country’s major history.

The 29-year-old has been a consistent performer around the world since making his big breakthrough in 2012, famously becoming the first player since Fred Couples in 1995 to back up his maiden European Tour triumph with a win the following week.

Those successes at the Joburg Open and Volvo Golf Champions are part of his eight-trophy haul in Europe, while he also broke his PGA Tour duck at the 2016 RBC Heritage.

A tie for 24th at last week’s Masters is a solid start to his major campaign, with June’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills next on the agenda.

Grace has two top-five finishes to his name in the competition, while he also has two top-fives at the PGA Championship.

The likes of Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Gary Player and Louis Oosthuizen have all won majors and the Pretoria-born star feels he has the temperament to add his name to that group.

“I don’t really feel the pressure,” Grace told ProGolfNow.

“I feel like I am playing well in the majors. I think I’ve only been in the majors only for four or five years now so I’ve probably still got a lot of majors ahead of myself.”
