Spieth receives Scott backing

Jordan Spieth has been tipped by Adam Scott to complete the ultimate Grand Slam by winning all four events in the same season.

The American superstar won his maiden major at the Masters back in April in sensational fashion, finishing on -18 and four shots ahead of Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose in joint-second.

The 21-year-old did manage to get as low as 19-under after a birdie at the 15th, the first to do this at Augusta National, before missing a five-foot par putt at the 18th that would have broken the record.

The four-time PGA Tour winner continued his rich vein of form by clinching the US Open at Chambers Bay after Dustin Johnson three-putted at the last to slip out of the lead.

Spieth is still in the hunt to become the first player to win all four majors in the same calendar year, with Tiger Woods coming closest back in 2000 when picking up three of the four titles.

There is still a huge amount of work to do for the world number two but Scott, who won the 2013 Masters, believes the American is in a great position to have a real shot at it.

“It’s really something that we haven’t thought isn’t attainable,” he said. “We saw the heights that Tiger took the game too and he didn’t achieve it and we thought no one would have a chance.

“But here it is. That’s the great thing about records, there made to be broken. Jordan has set himself up this year to do it at the age of 21. I wish him luck but if I have anything to do about it he won’t.”
