Lawrie aims to be host with the most

Paul Lawrie is looking forward to hosting the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play and is determined to put in a good performance.
The 46-year-old will return to his hometown of Aberdeen for the four-day, one million euros tournament at Murcar Links GC on the back of some encouraging displays at the recent BMW International Open and the Open Championship.
And while the spotlight is already on Lawrie given that he is the host who played a major part in organising the event, he knows a strong showing is required given that it will form part of the Race to Dubai for the next three years and sees 64 of the European Tour’s top players involved.
“The last few weeks have been very encouraging, and I’m still keeping myself active and performing well in tournaments,” he told europeantour.com.
“I’m hoping some of my best golf might still be ahead of me, and show that I can still compete out here on the Tour.
“My form is one of many reasons why I’m very excited about the week.
“It’s fantastic to be bringing another European Tour event to my home town of Aberdeen, after the Scottish Open was held at Royal Aberdeen last year,” added the 1999 Open champion.
“Match Play is a format we don’t get to play too often on Tour, so it’s very exciting for the players and also for the fans. I can’t wait to get going.”
