Lydia Ko became the youngster ever winner of a major title after she secured a six-shot victory at the Evian Championship on Sunday.

Ko sealed the triumph at just 18 years, four months and 20 days old surpassing the previous record held by American Morgan Pressel, who was 18 years, 10 months and nine days old when she secured victory at the Kraft Nabisco tournament in 2007.

The world number two started the day two shots off the lead but she carded a final round of 63 at the Evian Resort Golf Club to finish on 16 under-par with American Lexi Thompson finishing a distant second.

It is not the first time the teenager has broken records in her impressive performances as she also became the youngest player to top the world rankings when she achieved the feet in February. Ko also holds the record for being the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour when she was triumphant at the Canadian Open in 2012 as a 15-year-old.

The success in France was the last chance Ko had to become the youngest major winner and she admitted afterwards that it was one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf she had ever played.

She said: “It has been such an unbelievable experience. Now everybody won’t ask me when I will win my first major because it is done. It is definitely one of the top rounds of my whole life.”
