Thorbjorn Olesen won his third European Tour title after a two-shot victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday.
The 25-year-old Dane came into the tournament ranked 124th in the world having made only five cuts in a season, which has been hampered by surgery earlier in the year on a tendon problem in his left hand.
However, after taking a three-shot lead into the final round at St Andrews, Olesen posted a final-round one under-par 71 – his worst of the weekend – to finish on 18 under-par for the tournament, two shots clear of American duo Brooks Koepka and Chris Stroud.
Olesen started well on Sunday with a birdie from eight feet on the first, but a double bogey on the second and a bogey at the next to saw him lose the outright lead.
Birdies at the fourth and fifth holes saw him go back to the top of the leaderboard and a flawless finish, including an impressive birdie from 50 feet at the 15th, saw him home.
The win also boosts Olesen’s hopes of being inside the world’s top 110, which is required for him to retain his card for the European Tour next year.
Chris Wood was the best placed Englishman in tied for fourth on 15 under par, alongside four other players.
