Solid start pleases McIlroy

World number three Rory McIlroy feels his is in a “good position” following his first round at the Frys.com Open at Silverado in Napa.
In what is the start of the 2015-16 USPGA Tour season, the Northern Irishman managed to shoot a four-under-par 68 in California on Thursday.
American Brendan Steele is the early leader of the event after he came out the blocks the quickest with an impressive round for nine-under par.
Englishman Justin Rose and Scot Martin Laird are also in contention with rounds of 67 and 65 respectively.
McIlroy was pleased to be in the mix and feels his game his looking good going into Friday’s play.
He said: “It was a pretty solid score and I’m in a good position going in to the next three days.
“I felt like I played pretty well. I got off to a bit of a slow start this morning but gradually got into the round and started hitting some better shots and giving myself plenty of chances.
“I want to have chances to win golf tournaments, that’s really my focus until the end of the year.”
