Victor Dubuisson edged out Jaco van Zyl to secure his second Turkish Airlines Open title in three years in Antalya on Sunday.

The Frenchman, who revealed that personal issues had prevented him from playing consistently this year, was in tears after closing out with a six-under-par 66 to finish on 22-under for the tournament – one shot ahead of South African van Zyl and two clear of third-placed Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand.

Afterwards Dubuisson said: “It was so hard because there were so many personal reasons why I did not play so much this year.

“That’s why I am so emotional. I played a few events on the PGA Tour at the beginning of the year and I was not feeling good to be far away from my family. I did not play well and I was feeling lonely so decided to come back to Europe. Now, for the next three or four years, I will just stay in Europe 100 per cent.”

Dubuisson is now looking to push on and cement his place in next year’s Ryder Cup team having remained undefeated on his debut against the United States at Gleneagles last year.

The 25-year-old, who now leads the qualifying race, added: “Hopefully I can play again. I have put myself now in a good position but there is still a lot of work to do. I will definitely play more tournaments to give myself a really good chance to be a part of it.”

Meanwhile world number three Rory McIlroy, who was just one shot off the lead going into the final round, ended up carding a disappointing 71 to finish tied for sixth.
