Rory McIlroy’s one-shot win at the World Tour Championship on Sunday ensured him a third Race to Dubai title in four years.
The 26-year-old Northern Irish former world number one fired eight birdies in the first 15 holes to record a six-under-par final round of 66 as he finished on 21 under.
England’s Andy Sullivan pushed McIlroy all the way, but the four-time major winner did enough to take the title on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
Afterwards McIlroy, who collected £934,599 for his World Tour Championship win and the £822,828 bonus cheque for winning the Race to Dubai, said: “It’s the best way to finish 2015 and I can’t wait for next year.
“Luckily I came out on top but he’s a fantastic player.
“He kept holing putt after putt and I just kept chipping away, and thankfully I holed a few good ones of my own coming down the stretch.”
England’s Danny Willett secured second spot in the Race to Dubai courtesy of a tied fourth-placed finish in the World Tour Championship.
