Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods will soon be looking for a new equipment provider as current suppliers Nike are pulling out of engineering golf clubs and balls.
Woods has been with the global sports manufacturer for the best part of his career while McIlroy signed a huge deal worth $100m to switch to Nike equipment in January 2013.
Nike gave little reasoning behind the shock decision but insisted they are “committed to being the undisputed leader in golf footwear and apparel,” said Trevor Edwards, the brand’s President.
It took the Northern Irishman a season to adjust before he went on to claim his third and fourth majors in 2014.
Woods enjoyed unrivalled success with Nike while in his pomp but has not won a major since 2008 and has been ruled out of the entire 2016 campaign through injury.
The company will continue to make footwear and clothing for golf but will no longer be involved in the manufacture of clubs.
Both players will now be on the lookout for new suppliers, while Michelle Wie, one of the stars of the women’s game, is also on the books at Nike.
