Woods to play in Nicklaus’ event

Tiger Woods will play at The Memorial Tournament in preparation for his first crack at the US Open in three years.

Woods, who finished tied for 11th place at The Players Championship last week, will take part in the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event for the 16th time, having won The Memorial on five occasions in the past.

The 42-year-old, who won in 1999-2001, 2009 and 2012, last played at the event in 2015, finishing 71st, and shot the worst round in his PGA Tour career, a third-round 85. Best on the latest golf markets available at the best bookmakers in the UK on the European and PGA Tours.

Woods will go up against new world number one Justin Thomas, who is also in the field alongside Masters champion Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Bubba Watson and defending champion Jason Dufner.

After the Ohio event, Woods is next scheduled to play at the National in Maryland before heading over the Atlantic for The Open at Carnoustie.

It will be Woods? 20th appearance at golf?s oldest major and he will be bidding to win his fourth Claret Jug, having lifted it in 2000 and 2005 at St Andrews, as well as Hoylake in 2006.
