Johnson holds St Andrews lead

American Dustin Johnson enjoyed a successful first day at The Open after carding a round of 65 to finish seven under.

Johnson leads a chasing pack of six, who all sit one further back on six under, with a number of big names struggling to find any consistency.

Robert Streb, Retief Goosen, Paul Lawrie, Jason Day, Zach Johnson and Danny Willett make up the pack after returning to the clubhouse with a round of 66.

Jordan Speith, who is eyeing a Grand Slam, came home one behind that chasing group at five under along with 2010 champion Louis Oosthuizen.

Tiger Woods endured a forgettable afternoon and has it all to do after finishing with a score of four-over at St Andrews.
