American Presidents Cup captain Jay Haas has revealed that Jim Furyk is currently a doubt for next week’s event due to a wrist injury.
The 45-year-old missed the last couple of tournaments in the FedEx Cup Play-offs due to a bone contusion and is still struggling with the problem.
Furyk has played in seven Presidents Cups and will have expected to play a big part at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea, having qualified fifth in the rankings.
However, with the event set to start on Thursday, Haas has revealed that the veteran remains a doubt.
“Jim is still testing his wrist,” Haas said. “I don’t think it’s quite where he wants it to be, but he’s doing everything he can to be there. My hope is that he will be on that plane.”
J.B. Holmes, Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson are all being mentioned as potential replacements should the 2003 US Open champion fail to recover.
The skipper says he has already spoken to who he would select if Furyk was absent, although he has refused to name the player publicly.
Haas added: “He has plane reservations, his clothing is being readied, if that happens.”
