Evans nets Euro card as Koepka heads home

Brooks Koepka has relinquished his European Tour card to hand England’s Ben Evans playing privileges for next season.

Evans was one of the players sweating on his future at last week’s Hong Kong Open as he sat close to the cut-off line for the top 110 players who would automatically qualify for next season.

The 28-year-old rallied on Sunday in the Far East to shoot a closing 65 and tie for 11th in the former British colony, but it was only good enough to land him in 111th place in the Race to Dubai standings.

That meant that he would miss out on a Tour card for the 2016 campaign and have to head to Qualifying School to try to earn a spot.

But US star Koepka, who made his name in the European game, has now opted to ply his trade stateside next year and has given up membership of the European Tour.

That means that Evans moves up a spot and is now back in the fold.

Unsurprisingly, he was mightily relieved, tweeting: “Well @EuropeanTour it’s been a 24hr rollercoaster. Overwhelmed and so happy to be told I’ve moved to 110 on R2D Cant wait for 2016! #buzzing”.
