McIlroy eyeing winning end

Rory McIlroy is hoping a victory in one of the last three European events will make up for a lost season.

The Northern Irishman looked on course to enjoy a hugely successful year after winning the WGC-Match Play and the Wells Fargo Championship on the American circuit.

Performances were also impressive in the European campaign, with a second place in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship followed by success at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

However, disaster struck before the US Open as the 26-year-old damaged ligaments in his ankle and the injury became a huge hindrance in the months to follow.

McIlroy was unable to defend his Open crown due to the issue and it took a lot of time for the four-time major winner to get back to his better form.

The signs are looking more positive now as the European Tour heads into it’s final three tournaments, with the Turkish Airlines Open getting underway on Thursday.

McIlroy is one of the favourites to lift the trophy and he is hoping he can end the season on a high note and stay top of the European standings.

He said: “Obviously, I’d like to win the Race to Dubai. I’d like to win at least one of these last three events that I’m playing. That would make me feel better about the end of the year.”
