Rory McIlroy is looking forward to the final two events of the season following a disappointing finish at the Turkish Airlines Open.
The Northern Irishman was well placed to challenge for the title at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal after three straight rounds of 67, but he could only card a 71 during Sunday’s final day and eventually had to settle for a tie for sixth place.
The top ten finish did help the four-time major winner extend his lead in the Race to Dubai standings as he collected 256,695 points, whilst nearest rival Danny Willett only landed 128,524 points as he secured an 11th-place finish in Turkey.
The 26-year-old will be confident of holding onto his advantage in the final two events of the campaign as he has an impressive record in both the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions and DP World Tour Championship.
The world number three has never finished lower than sixth at the WGC event, whilst his victory in Dubai in 2012 was one of five top five finishes in that tournament since 2009, and he is confident of securing another strong finish in both events over the coming weeks.
He said: “I’m still playing two more events this year and I feel like my game is good enough to give myself two opportunities to win again.”
The former world number one believes his game is currently in good shape and with a couple of tweaks he could be close to hitting top form.
He added: “It’s not all bad. I feel like my game is in decent shape going forward. I just need to work on a couple of things and if I can get them straightened out in the next couple of weeks, I should be okay.”
