Danny Willett is targeting a victory in one of the three remaining Final Series events to see if he can win the Race to Dubai title.
The 28-year-old currently sits second in the European Tour standings but is a long way behind table-topping Rory McIlroy, who extended his lead over the Englishman when finishing in a share of sixth at last week’s Turkish Airlines Open.
Willett managed a tie for 11th in Antalya and is now 399,385 points behind the world number three, with this week’s WGC-HSBC Champions event looming large.
The Yorkshireman feels he will end up among the top players when the dust settles on the season in Dubai, but has loftier ambitions over the next three weeks.
“I thinks it’s one of them where if you’re in the position we’re in, I’m probably finishing in the top five,” he said. “Win one and that gets up that next level to how much everyone else kind of makes.
“My goal was to try and win one and if not, try to make a hell of a lot of money along the way and see if we can jump Rory. Obviously a lot can happen.”
It will be a stellar field this week with the likes of Jordan Spieth, defending champion Bubba Watson, 2013 winner Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott all set to tee it up in the Far East.
