Henrik Stenson is looking for a fast start in this week’s BMW Masters as he looks for an unlikely win in the Race to Dubai.
The 39-year-old has topped the European standings for the past two years and collected the riches that go with it but, heading into the penultimate event of the Final Series, finds himself down in 18th place on the money list.
The Swede has no chance of catching Rory McIlroy at the top of the standings but is looking to continue his strong form, having ended last season stateside with three second-place finishes and another top 10 in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup play-offs.
The Ryder Cup ace secured a share of 11th at last week’s HSBC Champions event and will remain in China for this week’s Lake McLaren tournament as he looks to hit the ground running and garner as many points as possible over the next couple of weeks to bridge the gap to the leaders.
“Hopefully I can start a little bit quicker than I did last week and be right there on Sunday,” he said. “There are a lot of points to play for here this week and of course in Dubai in the final.
“Two wins or two really good weeks could do the trick I guess. First thing though is to play well here this week to put ourselves in position.”
