Martin Kaymer hit a 65 to move to within two shots of leader Jamie Donaldson at the halfway stage of the Thailand Golf Championship.
Kaymer hit eight birdies in the round of the day at the Amata Springs Country Club but a number of players also remain in contention heading into the weekend.
The world No.27 has put himself in a strong position to win his first event of the year and the 2014 US Open champion was happy with his performance.
“I just hit good iron shots towards the greens and gave myself a lot of good chances for birdies,” he said. “I didn’t miss many putts.
“Overall, it was even better than yesterday and I just need to stay where I am heading into the weekend. I am hitting a lot of fairways and I think it’s really important.”
Donaldson remains in the lead but he was unable to match his round of 63 from the first day of play.
Sergio Garcia, Chinnarat Phadungsil and Matt Fitzpatrick are tired for third, four shots behind on nine-under, while European Tour Rookie of the Year Byeong Hun An is also in contention going into the third round after he finished on eight-under.
