Brandt Snedeker has won the weather-delayed Farmers Insurance Open after the chasing pack failed to overhaul him on the extra day.
The world No.24 was able to claim his first PGA Tour victory in nearly a year in unusual circumstances on Monday after strong winds had forced the early postponement of Sunday’s final round.
Snedeker, who had only just made the cut, had been able to complete his final round, producing a remarkable 69 given the conditions to take top spot on the leaderboard on six-under having started the day six shots off the leaders KJ Choi and Scott Brown.
When play resumed on Monday, none of Snedeker’s rivals were able to match the American’s score, Jimmy Walker bogeying four of the last eight holes as he ended the event in a share of third.
Choi had a chance to force a play-off with a 30-foot putt at the 18th but missed, handing Snedeker his second win by one shot at the California event having previously come out on top in 2012.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be the champion again and how unbelievable the last 48 hours have been. Everything worked out perfectly for me.
“You cannot make up the extreme events that had to happen for me to have this chance. They all fell in line for me perfectly. I hate watching this stuff because I am in no control.
“I wish we could play all year out here on the West Coast because I play fantastic and love being out here.
“I would not have guessed it this morning when I woke up. I would have thought best-case scenario was a play-off.”
