Luke Donald says he ‘would love’ to be part of Europe’s team for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

Europe will be aiming to win the coveted tournament for the fourth time in a row, having triumphed at Celtic Manor, Medinah Country Club and, most recently, Gleneagles.

The last outing in Scotland ended in a comfortable 16.5-11.5 victory for Paul McGinley’s men and Darren Clarke has now been handed the task of defending the cup.

World number three Rory McIlroy is expected to play another leading role while the likes of Justin Rose, Danny Willett and Sergio Garcia are also expected to shine.

Donald is hoping he can do enough to earn the points needed to automatically qualify and make a fifth Ryder Cup appearance, having been on the winning side on four previous occasions.

The Englishman did not play at Gleneagles after failing to make the cut although his performances have started to improve of late, with a tie for second achieved at the RBC Heritage.

Donald will require more high-placed finishes to make Clarke’s team but the world number 76 is confident of earning good results.

“My game is starting to get back to where I want it to be,” he said in his European Tour Player Blog. “I would love to make the Ryder Cup team. I feel like I?m playing well enough to make it to Hazeltine and contribute and be someone who would help Europe retain the Ryder Cup.”
