Matthew Fitzpatrick fired a solid final round of 71 to cruise to his second European Tour win on Sunday at the Nordea Masters.

After picking up two shots on the front nine, a bogey at a 10th did not rile the Yorkshireman and even a final hole bogey could not take the gloss off the victory.

His tally of 16-under was enough to give him a three-shot victory and see him claim his second European Tour title after breaking his duck last year at the British Masters.

An eagle on the par four sixth helped Denmark’s Lasse Jensen finish second on his own four off the pace, while the resurgent Nicolas Colsaerts was a further strike back on 12-under.

Home favourite Henrik Stenson finished well with a round of the day 66 to grab a share of fourth alongside compatriot Bjorn Hellgren, while Lee Westwood was another recognisable name in the top 10.

The final day at Stockholm’s Bro Hof Slott GC belonged to overnight leader Fitzpatrick though and he was understandably delighted to have become the youngest ever winner of the Swedish tournament.

“It was great, I’m delighted to win,” he said. “It was a great final day for me and I managed to hold onto my lead fairly well and get the win. I felt like today was the round were I would be under the most pressure.

“I’m a million miles ahead of schedule. It’s been a tough past few weeks and all of a sudden you turn up and pick up a win.”
