A final round of 66 saw Dustin Johnson continue his recent fine run by claiming a one-shot victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
The American began the day three strokes back but carded six birdies and just two bogeys on the fearsome Firestone layout to finish on six-under.
That tally was enough to see him claim his second win in as many starts following his recent triumph at the US Open and will give him a significant boost heading into the upcoming Open Championship.
Joint-overnight leader Scott Piercy finished with a 70 to claim second outright, while Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar recorded final rounds of 67 and 66 to claim a share for third, where they were joined by Jason Day.
The Australian started Sunday alongside Piercy but a bogey on the 15th and a double on the 16th saw him fall out of contention, before also dropping a shot on the last.
Following the conclusion of the event in Ohio, Johnson was understandably delighted with his performance and admitted he now has designs on rising to the top of the rankings.
“Of course I want to be the best player in the world,” Johnson told Sky Sports. “If I just keep winning, then that’ll do it for me.
“I feel like every part of my game is good; I’ve been driving it really well, feel like I’m wedging it good and I feel like I’m finally starting to roll some putts in.”
