Dustin Johnson says his game is in good shape after carding an opening round 66 to take a share of the RBC Canadian Open lead.
Johnson, who clinched his maiden major championship at the US Open at Oakmont recently, made seven birdies, one bogey, a double-bogey and an eagle at the par-five 18th to finish on -6.
The American was in brilliant form at Glen Abbey Golf Club and is firmly in contention to clinch a third win of the year and a 12th PGA Tour career victory.
He admits the confidence is really flowing at the moment and the performance on day one of the tournament has provided even more momentum going into Friday’s action.
“My game feels good,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in it. I feel like I’m swinging really well. I felt like I rolled the ball really nicely with the putter today. I’m definitely driving the ball nicely. I’ve got a lot of confidence in the driver. I feel like I can hit it in the fairway.”
Johnson is joined on -6 by compatriot Luke List, who made six birdies in a bogey-free display as he aims for his maiden win on the American circuit and the first since the 2012 South Georgia Classic of the Web.com Tour.
Canadian amateur Jared du Toit is then in a four-way share of third, alongside Spaniard Jon Rahm and USA stars Chesson Hadley and Kelly Kraft, after carding a five-under-par 67
Defending champion and world number one Jason Day is in a tie for 11th after signing for a three-under-par 69, sitting alongside the likes of Matt Kuchar and Ben Crane.
