US Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III is happy his contingent of players are in form as he continues to prepare for Hazeltine.
The team event gets underway at the end of September against Europe, with Team USA determined to put their recent losing streak in the competition behind them.
The Americans have not won the Ryder Cup since 2008 but are viewed as favourites as things stand, with Love pleased the likes of Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar are in good form.
Love has four captain’s picks this year and he admits he is spoilt for choice when looking down the list of players in contention.
“I think our guys seem to be, like I said from 1 to 25, even farther down, consistently playing well. We might not win every week, which is hard to do on the PGA Tour these days. We have four, five, six guys right up there every week.
“So many guys just week-in and week-out, just keep playing good.”
The top eight on the PGA Tour list will automatically make USA’s team and they are currently – in order – Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Spieth, Zach Johnson, J.B. Holmes, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Kuchar.
However, to underline the strength in depth available to Love as he considers his captain’s picks, there are plenty of talented players doing well who make up the top 25 as things stand with Brooks Koepka (9), Rickie Fowler (10), Patrick Reed (11), Jim Furyk (18) and Steve Stricker (23) all among those in contention to make the Ryder Cup side.
