Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the US PGA Championship after struggling to improve his putting game at Baltusrol.
The two-time winner of the tournament shot 74 in his first round and despite improving to card a 69 on Friday, he still didn?t do enough to progress.
McIlroy bogeyed the last hole but was left sitting three over and missed the cut by one shot in what he called a pathetic performance on the greens.
“Tee to green was good, but it was just pathetic when I got onto the green,” said McIlroy.
“I thought I’d make the cut when I birdied the fourth, at least got my first birdie of the week, and kept going from there. I played well, hit a lot of fairways and greens, but I just need to do a lot of work.
“Tee to green is good, I just need to figure out what to do on the greens and I need to have a long hard think about that.?
Meanwhile, Jimmy Walker and Robert Streb lead the way going into Saturday after both ended on nine-under after their first two trips round the course.
Defending champion Jason Day shot eight birdies to return to the clubhouse at seven-under par, while the highest-placed Briton is Wales? Jamie Donaldson, who finished at four under.
