Jim Furyk looks set to be named as one of Davis Love III’s captain’s picks for Hazeltine, as the Ryder Cup edges ever closer.
The Pennsylvania golfer endured a torrid spell on the sidelines earlier this year with a wrist injury but has found some form in recent tournaments.
Well in contention at the halfway stage of the Wyndham Championship, Furyk has continued to impress and now the 46-year-old is pushing for a playing spot at Hazeltine.
Love had already stated at the US PGA Championship that Furyk was on his radar and now the veteran has been tipped to switch his vice-captaincy role to a playing one next month.
“We will factor that in there, that Jim Furyk missed a lot of tournaments, that he played really well,” Love said at Baltusrol. “I’ll have the stat crunchers go back and run 10,000 times if Jim Furyk played his normal schedule, where he would have finished, and he’ll probably pop right back up into the top five or six.”
