Jordan Spieth says he is feeling fresh and strong after a six-week break, ahead of his return to action at the Australia Open.

The 23-year-old has not picked up a club in a competitive environment since helping the United States reclaim the Ryder Cup in impressive fashion at Hazeltine but is now ready to get back into the swing of things in Sydney.

The Texas native has a good record at the Australian Open, clinching the title in 2014 before finishing runner-up to surprise winner Matt Jones last year.

The decision to relocate the tournament to the Royal Sydney course will present Spieth with a new challenge but the former world number one is in an optimistic mood after his time away from the game.

“I feel very fresh,” Spieth said. “I feel as strong and healthy as I’ve felt … probably ever to be honest.

“It was really nice taking a few weeks off, just training and only getting back into golf the last couple weeks. Really trying to make it an off season.”

With the new venue not too far from Sydney’s harbour, Spieth admits wind could play a major role in the event, although he insists he will not let the conditions change his approach.

“The scores are just going to be dependent on weather, I think – how hard the wind blows. If it doesn’t blow you can tear this place up and if it does then you can get into some trouble quickly,” he added.

“Nothing really changes, other than less drivers most likely. I still plan on being pretty aggressive, I’ve just got to try and figure out where all these slopes are, so when the pins are in their locations for the tournament you understand which sides to miss it on.”
