The LPGA Tour has revealed plans to host the inaugural Senior LPGA Championship in July next year.
The tournament will feature 81 players, including LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members playing over 54 holes, and will take place between Monday 10 and Wednesday 12 July at The Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort in Indiana.
Dye’s layout has previously hosted the 2015 Senior PGA Championship, as well as number of other national events.
The news comes on the back of February’s announcement by the USGA that they will introduce a U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship, which will take place for the first time in 2018.
LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan believes the events will help further spread the appeal of the game and also allow the generation who paved the way on Tour to remain competitive.
“This is a landmark event for the LPGA because it provides a larger platform to celebrate the legends of the game,” he said.
“With the USGA’s recently announced U.S. Senior Women’s Open and now our event, the women who forged the way for the current generation will now have two major championships each year.”
