Bubba Watson beat Paul Casey in a play-off to claim victory at the Travelers Championship on Sunday.

Having started the day one off the pace, the world number five birdied his first couple of holes but struggled to build on his momentum, eventually signing for a 67 which took him to 16-under for the tournament.

The two-time Masters champion was joined on that score by the resurgent Casey, who flew round in 65 at TPC River Highlands to force a play-off.

Both men recorded pars on the first extra hole before Watson took the title with a birdie on their return to the 18th.

It marks the second time the 36-year-old has won the event, having claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at the tournament back in 2010 and afterwards the Floridian admitted he was proud of the way he handled himself in the play-off.

“I hung on, and that’s what you have to do sometimes to win,” Watson told ESPN. “It’s just about staying calm. That’s what you have to do.

“You just breathe and walk slower, take some deep breaths and focus on the fact that no matter what you still come in second place.”

Elsewhere, overnight leader Brian Harman’s birdie-birdie finish proved not enough as he finished one shot shy of the play-off to take third on his own, one clear of Graham DeLaet, who bogeyed the last to claim fourth.
