The United States Golf Association has confirmed Brookline will host the US Open in 2016.
The Country Club at Brookline, based in Massachusetts, has not hosted the competition for 34 years but has been given the honour after the event was held at Chambers Bay this year.
Best known for the USA’s victory over Europe in the ‘Battle of Brookline’ at the 1999 Ryder Cup, the famous course has hosted the US Open on three previous occasions.
Country Club’s general chairman Will Fulton is looking forward to having the prestigious major event at Brookline next year.
He said: “We have been fortunate to have held 16 USGA events and to have witnessed some of golf’s great moments. Along with our gracious co-hosts, the town of Brookline, we look forward to welcoming golf fans from New England and around the world.”
Meanwhile, the United States Golf Association has also revealed the Los Angeles Country Club will host its first US Open in 2023 and Pinehurst will stage the event in 2024 for the fourth time.
