Rickie Fowler believes patience is the key if he is to win his first major title at the PGA Championship this week.

The 26-year-old finished in the top five at all four majors in 2014, but his best finish this year came when he tied for 12th at the Masters in April.

The American was victorious at both the Players Championship and the Scottish Open earlier in the season and he believes the time will come for him to break his major duck.

Fowler said: “I don’t know if I would say it’s harder, by any means. There’s just fewer chances at playing in majors and winning. So I don’t look at them as any harder to win, you just really have to be patient and not push any harder than needed.”

The world number seven will be hoping to achieve his maiden success in the final major of the year at Whistling Straits and he is determined to still be in contention going into the final 36 holes.

He continued: “[I’m going to] go out there and just focus on sticking to my game plan and taking care of the business that I need to take care of out there, and ultimately putting myself in a position going into the weekend to be in contention.”

Fowler is among a number of Americans hoping to make it a clean sweep of major titles in 2015 for the country following Jordan Spieth’s two successes at the Masters and US Open and Zach Johnson’s triumph at the Open Championship last month.

The US have not won all four majors in the same year since 1982 and if they were to achieve the feat then it would give them huge confidence heading into next year’s Ryder Cup in Minnesota.
