The odds against making a hole-in-one have been calculated as 40,000 to one for amateur golfers, meaning many players go through their entire lives without ever experiencing the perfect shot.
But Cwmbran’s Ronald Morgan has beaten the odds nine times to record a whopping haul of aces after logging his most recent at his club, Woodlake Park.
And the 67-year-old, who plays off 11, had barely stopped celebrating his ace at the club’s 155-yard, par-three seventh before he had even better news: the reward of a commemorative, limited-edition BOSS watch.
Morgan said: “I have been a member at Woodlake Park for around 18 years – previously at Pontypool GC for 20 years – and have been playing altogether for 53 years.
“This was my ninth hole-in-one in total and my fourth at Woodlake Park; it was also my second hole-in-one on the seventh.
“The previous one made headlines in the national golfing magazines because I holed my tee shot immediately after my playing partner – apparently the odds on that happening are 17 million to one.
“Needless to say, my many friends at Woodlake Park made sure my bar bill reached a substantial amount for my most recent hole-in-one.”
Luxury German brand BOSS has once again pledged to reward club golfers with an exclusive watch for every hole-in-one recorded during a club competition in 2015.
The company has given away more than £1m-worth of limited-edition timepieces since the launch of this campaign in 2013 – and Morgan is one of the most recent players to achieve the feat this year.
The scheme is open to any golfer whose club uses HowDidiDo – a free-to-use, web-based social network for golfers – and anybody playing in official club competitions will be eligible.
