UK golfers have just one week left to sign up for a chance to win an expenses-paid trip to Morocco in the Morocco Matchplay, powered by HowDidiDo – with a closing date for entries of Monday, June 15.
The Morocco Matchplay, powered by HowDidiDo, is once again being sponsored by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO), with the final taking place in the charming city of Essaouira between February 7-12, 2016.
Thousands of UK golfers will battle it out this summer to qualify for north and south regional finals, with a total of 36 finalists fighting it out for four titles – better-ball pairs, mixed pairs, senior pairs and singles.
Each lucky finalist will receive complimentary flights, five nights’ luxury accommodation in the Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa resort and four rounds of championship golf on the Gary Player-designed Mogador course at the stunning west-coast location.
Nestled in the lush surroundings of a wild beach lined with eucalyptus and mimosa, the luxury Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Mogador golf course, and boasts elegant décor by Didier Gomez, blending contemporary French design with authentic Moroccan details.
Not only do competitors have a wonderful final experience to play for, they will also be able to register at a reduced cost, with entry fees £5 lower than last year at £45 for all pairs’ categories, and £25 for singles. An additional 20 per cent discount is available when entering more than one category.
The Moroccan National Tourist Office’s director for UK and Ireland, Amine Boughaleb, said: “Following the success of the Morocco MatchPlay event last year, we are delighted to have once again secured title sponsorship of one of the UK’s biggest amateur events.
“Morocco has 29 golf courses to be enjoyed in year-round sunshine – plus 11 more under construction – and, with flight times of less than three-and-a-half hours from the UK, it is a hugely attractive alternative to the more traditional golf destinations of Europe.
“We look forward to welcoming the finalists to our beautiful and inspiring country and working alongside HowDidiDo to engage the Golf in Morocco brand with golfers across the UK.”
Barry Dyett, managing director of HowDidiDo Media, added: “To receive the support of the Moroccan National Tourist Office again is a great fillip for the event and will spur on amateurs who enter the competition to play some great golf.
“Emerging as one of the most promising golf destinations at the door of Europe, Morocco is an ideal all-year-round destination and a fabulous playground for golf lovers.
“We’d like to thank the Moroccan National Tourist Office not only for its continued patronage but also for giving amateur golfers such a tremendous opportunity.”
Following his victory, last year’s winner, Ian Cook, said: “It’s my first time in Morocco and it’s a great place for winter golf. There was a tweet from my home club this morning saying something about the course is now open – it had been closed – but there is still snow in places. But here we are in shorts and short-sleeve shirts and I’m going home with a title – it just doesn’t come any better.”
The competitions are open to both men and women; competitors must be aged 18 or over by June 26, 2015; seniors must be aged 50 or over by June 26, 2015.
HowDidiDo is Europe’s largest golfing community, holding in excess of 21 million rounds of golf along with the handicaps, results and scores of more than 1,300,000 UK golf club members, with more than 460,000 golfers currently using the website.
